(More customer reviews)I was in the british virgen islands on a sailboat- you can see where this is going... even so i was careful to apply sunscreen regularly. however, snorkeling is a recipie for a bad burn- you never feel it coming until you are out of the water and by then it is way too late. we docked somewhere and the gift shop had a bottle of this stuff. someone i was traveling with bought it for me, bless them. i applied about 4 times over the course of that evening/night and by the next day i was fine, even begining to tan- i am a redhead so this was unheard of for me.
anyway, i'm buying more. i can't believe i can get it on amazon! It's the tea tree oil and eualyptus that help with pain relief and healing i think. aloe alone is no good. i've tried lots of remedies like baking soda, apple cider vinegar, noxema they are ok. but if you can get this you will be so much better off. it can save your vacation- pack it with you! I'm going to cancun this year with my kids and am definately coming prepared!
My instructions for sunburn care developed after careful research and experimentation:
As soon as possible, take a cool bath first if you have milk or vinegar to put in the bath or yougurt throw that in soak 15 min (the acid changes the ph in the skin and stops the pain). then dry off and apply the carribean solutions stuff (chill in fridge or ice bucket if available) if bad burn you may need to repeat bath in a few hours. also, take aspirin (it stops the inflamation reaction) or aleeve. if you have it you really should also take vitamin c, alpha lipoic acid (fat soluble vit c), and flax oil or fish oil supplement for skin healing. avoid alcohol, drink lots of cool water and eat cooling foods juicy things like fruit and salad and cucumber. once the heat is gone from the burn like the next day cont with the c.s. stuff but consider addding kukui oil (has linoleic acid in it good for skin) or some other moisturizer. if you still have heat in your skin skip the heavy moisturizers it can hold the heat in and lengthen healing time. cont with the c.s. gel followed by oil for several days.
stay out of the sun or coverup well once burned. burned skin can't absorb sunscreen properly you will worsen the damage if you don't take care. that's all! best of health to you!

People who are really sensitive to that oily sunscreen sensation will probably still notice a little tiny bit of a greasy feeling, but I've come to the conclusion that sunscreen is inherently oily-feeling. The worst thing about this sunscreen gel is the smell of evaporating alcohol; anyone who has ever had a cocktail thrown in their face knows what I mean. If you're going to use it on your face, don't load up all at once, and make sure you're near a fan turned on high so that it'll dry as fast as possible.

(More customer reviews)In short, I love this sunscreen. I started using it a couple years ago because I got a new job at a juvinile boot camp facility in Nevada. I was constantly outside (about 95% of my day) and in the middle of the Nevada dessart the sun can really boil down on you. I put it on once in the morning and it lasted all day and I NEVER got burned! I sprayed it on the areas I wanted protected and rubbed it in a little (you don't have to). I shave my head to the scalp and my head got burned with several other sunscreens I tried but with this one, my head never got burned.
This product is an absolute must if you are outside a lot or going on a vacation during the summer. Also great for people who shave their heads to the scalp.
Neither sweat or water effects it and it's not greasy and doesn't run. The smell is a bit weird but nothing bad.
I highly recommend this product.

It leaves the skin slightly whitened, but since I use it under makeup, it doesn't show. I was at the beach for 4 hours and never had to re-apply. I would buy this product again.

(More customer reviews)I love this sunblock for my almost-2 year old (and have used it on myself a couple of times). I always use a sunblock on her with physical blockers rather than chemical, since they are supposed to be safer and not absorbed through the skin. The other 2 we have been using until this product was introduced were California Baby and Neutrogena Pure & Free. Both of these seem to be thicker and harder to rub in and get the white glow to disappear. Episencial is very smooth to apply and easy to rub in.

(More customer reviews)I bought this product 2 months ago and tested it first on a sunny day when I knew I'd be outside long enough to see results. I smeared a dot on each shoulder - should've put it all over because I ended up being out much longer than planned and burned each shoulder except for the quarter sized pale dot where the Mexitan had been applied. My husband and I use it frequently on ourselves and our 3 little boys - no one has gotten burned yet. We do apply it 20-30 minutes before going out so that it has time to work properly. The smell is not offensive, just clean and fresh smelling. I have very sensitive skin but haven't had any rashes, so that makes me happy.
Our only complaint is that if you rub it too long or apply to an area where you already just applied it, it can slough or roll off in little bits. It spreads very easily unlike some of the other sunscreens that are safer or more natural. Takes a little practice and getting used to - just spread quickly and thoroughly and don't overspread or overapply. I'm much better with it, my husband is not as patient, but getting there.
If you are swimming, heavily applied areas can whiten, but the excess disappears with a gentle swipe. That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, but hey, it's not full of chemicals so I think I can handle some streaking. We do exercise common sense by being careful to watch for signs of burning even when we're using suncreen, but we haven't had that problem so far with this product. So far our experience with this product has been positive.

(More customer reviews)Caribbean Sol works really well and does not contain any of the scary sunscreen chemicals that harm people or marine life. It has a nice scent, not at all chemical. It goes on whitish because the active ingredients are mineral sun blockers, not chemical sun absorbers, but then disappears after a while, which is an incentive to put it on well before you go outside, which is better for sun protection anyway. It stays put and is non-greasy. The kids' formula is labeled water resistant.
It's a good value for a natural product -- and if you read the labels, a lot of the "natural" sunscreens contain the exact ingredients you want to avoid. Department store cosmetic brands sell sunscreens at twice the price with the same nasty chemicals as the drugstore brands. Choose carefully.

Did not feel oily/greasy, pleasant/subtle scent, and protected the whole family from sunburn. Of course with any sunscreen, reapplying often was necessary while sunning near the equator.
