(More customer reviews)I have melasma, and need a sunscreen to provide strong UVA / UVB protection. I have used Total Block for 7 years, and it has prevented this condition from worsening, despite my spending a reasonable amount of time in the sun.
The clear does *not* dry completely clear, and can be a bit chalky. My skin is very fair, so even adding all the "light" pigment to the customizable tinted formulation does not result in a light enough color. By blending the tinted and "clear" products so that they match my skin tone, I can get a decent foundation.
I would recommend this product for anyone who is serious about complete sun protection and is patient with applying a product that can be a bit chalky.

SPF is not an accurate determination of a sunscreen\'s capability of protection from the sun\'s harmful rays. It is only an indication of protection from one wavelength of light, UVB. It does not indicate protection from UVA rays, which are responsible for deeper damaging, including tanning, wrinkles, and pigmentation changes. (More customer reviews)I read the product ingredients on the Amazon description and was excited to find a sunscreen product with so few ingredients. I was horrified when it arrived and I read the list of "Inactive Ingredients" the first three in the list: Alumina, Aluminum Hydroxide, Aluminum Stearate all Aluminum derivatives, all of which I avoid using , Aluminum can interfere with magnesium in the body and aluminum is also linked to Alzheimer's. I'll never buy this again and won't use the one I did buy. I am very annoyed to have paid a total of $12.79 for a product I won't use.

Update: I just recently looked at the ingredient list again and was shocked to see that it does contain oxybenzone (carcinogenic) and therefore I can't recommend it anymore. Sorry! The formula was apparently changed :-(.

I recommend spraying it on hands only very lightly to apply to the face and at that I would still say you may want to apply a different sunscreen on the forehead as it can drip into the eyes with sweat. I would still buy this again!

She told me I needed to use this sunblock everyday under makeup and that it was, along with a prescription she gave me, the best product for anti-aging. What I really like about it is how smoothly it goes on and how smooth it makes my facial skin feel. It goes on as easily as a makeup with an oil base. I would apply it on my hands, but since it's a bit pricey, I want to use it sparingly. This particular sunblock cannot be found in stores but there are several merchants that sell it on-line. It's just a matter of who offers the best price. I plan on continuing to use it since my dermatologist recommended it and I like the way it feels. I have sat out in the sun with this sunblock on and it has been very effective.

(More customer reviews)My dermatologist recommended this product after I had a chemical peel (to remove all of the previous sun damage to my fair, freckled face!) It is wonderful! All other products I've used still allowed me to freckle, even while preventing burns. COTZ prevents both the burn and the freckling. Moreover it doesn't sting when it gets in my eyes, and it doesn't burn my cheeks when I put it on. I love the slight tint and opacity, which even out my skin tone better than my expensive foundation without looking like make-up. As if all of this weren't enough, when I reapply COTZ while I'm on-the-go, I don't have to rush to wash my hands, because after a few minutes the "lotion" feeling is completely gone from my palms.
This product is definitely worth the price. I'm hooked!

It is thick but easy to apply all over their little selves. They had a slight whitish tinge to their skin until it absorbed. However, they played in the full sun and water for several hours everyday and did not burn in the least. In fact, they both came home with tans.
This company was one of just a few that passed the Environmental World Groups study of sunblocks. It is completely safe for children. The company has also signed the "Compact for Safe Cosmetics" so you can feel very good about buying their products.
The lotion (not the unscented) has a lovely, citrusy aroma that we all liked, too.

(More customer reviews)I really like the Cotz water-resistant sunblock fo the face. It does give a nice matte finish just like stated, that I really love. It is water-proof and sweat-proof. I use Retin-A and have always had very porcelain skin. But even though I wore sunscreen and a visor, I was getting blotchy brown patches on my lower cheeks this summer. I started using this product and, with continued use of the Retin-A, the brown patches are sloughing away and not coming back. This summer, I've been using it in place of base makeup, then using a little powder and blush to counter the whiteness. That's worked well. I thought I'd only use it in the summer, but will probably use it year round now. I've always used some kind of sunscreen on my face year round since my early 20s, and at 45 I find my skin looks better than most. I was also worried I would use this up too fast, given the price, but I've been using the one tube for a month and still have plenty left, so it goes far.

Coppertone was not strong enough and the kids started to color after 30 min in sun (at least the parts not covered by Rashies and hats). This product is great and after the entire summer the kids were still white. My kids also break out with other brands and this did not happen with Blue Lizard (adult and baby formulas both). I used it too and it was the only thing that prevented me (a very pale person) from burning..and I used several other top brands 45spf too. Worth the expense!

(More customer reviews)I bought this sunscreen after reading about its improved protection against both UV A and UV B.
I have no complaints about the sun protection - it seems to work, though of course a true test of protection is long-term sun damage avoidance, and not from a few days' use.
But I dont like the texture of the cream. First, it is not a lotion but a cream. By which I mean its semi-solid and does not blend well on the face. I tried using a lotion moisturizer blended with this sunscreen to make it blend better, but its not easy.
Second, the sunscreen is very whitish and looks that way even after applying very little of it. So if you are somewhat tanned and apply this cream it will show up in whitish streaks on your face that do not sink in.
I also tried applying mineral makeup on top of this to reduce the white-out look, but the camouflage does not work too well.
Third, the sunscreen is not marked as 'non-comedogenic (does not block pores) so that might be an important factor for you to consider if you tend to have large pores, whiteheads or blackheads.
Summary: if you are going to spend a long time in the sun and want a high performance sunscreen, use this one. If you want something more mild for daily use, try out the SPF 15 version of this same brand, or look elsewhere.

(More customer reviews)I am a dermatologist, and this is my favorite sunscreen. I have lupus and my husband is very fair, and this is the sunscreen we both use. I use it on my baby as well. It doesn't clog pores and there is essentially nothing allergenic in this sunscreen. Zinc Oxide and Titanium dioxide are inert minerals and don't cause rash. The only other sunscreen that works as well as this one is the 30 dollar skinceuticals version. I recommend it to all my patients. It's great. I love it!
