(More customer reviews)We've been using Neutrogena sunblocks in the summer for several years now and, given that most of our summers are spent in the sun, by the pool or at the beach, I think I have some authority to state that I am happy with this product.
The SPF 30 spray features:
- UVA/UVB protection
- Helioplex for keeping the product effective longer
- a very fine dry mist
- discreet, sexy odor
- seems to stay effective for several hours
- I don't need to re-apply it after swimming
I disagree with the maker's claim that it 'resists running into eyes'. My personal experience is that you should not apply this anywhere near your eyes unless you have easy access to an abundant water supply to wash it off. Use some dry stick for the areas near your eyes or for your entire face if possible.
Besides that, this is definitely our favorite sunblock. We buy a dozen or so spray cans of various SPF levels (we use SPF 70 in Florida and mostly SPF 45 or SPF 30 when in our less tropical Pennsylvania) and a few sticks and out family of 5 is good for the season. We haven't experienced any sunburns lately.
Since this is THE sunblock we use and we don't use anything else, I am compelled to award this product the 5 stars it clearly deserves.

True story. I know it's true because it happened to me, a few days ago.
One lazy Saturday afternoon, having completed my 100 or so laps, I am in the back of the house, reading a book and sipping some drink, Scotch and soda. A bunch of kids are splashing in the pool, dogs over-excited. I notice Tatiana circling around, trying to look busy, a hesitant, uncomfortable look on her face. She's my wife's girlfriend, a neighbor, and she's married too, 3 little girls, her 6 yr. old our 6 yr. old's best friends. While all this is going on, I keep reading, enjoying the day, sipping my drink.
To make it short, she seems to find the needed energy to address me directly.
A., she says, what are you wearing?
Svimvear I says (a joke, she's from Russia).
No, no, no, she says, what perfume are you wearing? Or is it your aftershave?
What are you talking about? No perfume, says I. I just came out of the pool.
But, A., you smell soooo good, says she. My husband never smells like this. Why can't he smell like you do?
Ahhhh... I finally realize, it's GOT to be the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunblock Spf 30 5 Oz. I'm wearing.

This product is the ONLY sunscreen (including Neutrogena and Aveeno) that does not leave a white residue or oiliness. It, however, is VERY hard to find this product at a retail store.

(More customer reviews)I have used this product for 2 months now and mostly for golfing and bicycling. Both activities exposes a person to plenty of sunshine especially in Southern California.
This product is almost identifical to the SPF 55 version. The SPF 55 version has 10% HOMOSALATE (which is not Helioplex) and the SPF 70 version has 15% HOMOSALATE. That seems to be the only difference according to the "active ingrediants". The Helioplex (AVOBENZONE) remains exactly the same at 3%.
My subjective tests failed to reveal SPF 70 is significantly better than SPF 55. The good news is that the SPF 55 version is an excellent sunscreen, and quite possibly the best in the market. The SPF 70 protects the person just as well, but not by 20%-25% margin as one would reasonably expect with 15 SPF increase.
Few other things of note:
1)There is no such thing as perfect sun protection except for staying out of sunshine all together. Your skin will become noticeably darker even after ample application of this sunscreen, but not by much.
2)You should put on ample amount of sunscreen to get any reasonably good sun protection. Please do not use skimpy amounts unless you want to get a good tan without sunburns.
3)DO NOT APPLY OVER THE EYES AND THE FOREHEAD (put on a cap). If you have been stung in the eyes with sunscreen before you know you would rather avoid the experience.
4)This product is water resistent and does not wear off easily. So I highly recommend this for swimmers and beach bums.
5)The SPF 70 version leaves noticeably more residue than the SPF 55 version. So if you want less residue with almost as good sun protection, I recommend the SPF 55 version. The overall residue is very much acceptable and is not readily visible to the eye.

She has oily skin prone to breakouts, and mine is combination. Every one we tried always left a greasy feel and look to the face, even the ones that were supposed to be oil-free.
Finally, I came across a review of this product on Paula Begoun's website (www.cosmeticscop.com). The review sounded good, so I went out and bought some right away. My daughter and I both LOVE this product! It's the only sunscreen we have ever used that doesn't leave a greasy feel or look to the skin. It dries to a matte finish, and works very, very well under foundation, too. Without foundation, there is no need to use powder to kill the shine. And it feels so light on the skin, you barely know it's there!
If you have oily or combination skin and have never found a sunscreen that doesn't look and feel greasy, try this one! It's the best!

(More customer reviews)I've tried the Neutragena sunscreen, Coppertone Sport spray sunscreen, and the generic Rite Aid pump sunscreen. I like Neutragena's the best because the spray is controlled, the smell isn't too strong, and I like the cooling sensation when applied. The only negatives are that it does still smell (I highly recommend applying it outdoors) and it recommends applying at least 15 minutes before going outside.
The Coppertone sport sprayed all over the place and had a very strong smell. Because the spray was not well controlled, it didn't last long at all. It only lasted about a week of applying it every day, while the Neutragena has lasted much longer. The Rite Aid pump spray is good too because it's easy to control the amount of sunscreen that comes out, but it has to be upright to spray, so it can be a little hard to apply.
Overall the Neutrogena sunblock is very good. I found it at Target for just $8-9 though - much cheaper than on Amazon!

(More customer reviews)With the recent discovery's about how extremely damaging the sun's rays are, and by the urging of that speech floating around the internet, I decided to look for a sunscreen.
You need to look for a sunscreen that will protect you from both UVB and UVA rays. Most sunscreens already protect you from UVB, 93% of the rays with SPF15 and 97% with SPF30. However, not many sunscreens protect you from the spectrum of UVA rays, the more damaging rays. UVB rays will cause damage to your skin, so we need protection from this to prevent sunburn. UVA rays are much more dangerous, since they penetrate and cause connective tissue damage, aka aging. While most sunscreens take care of a small section of the UVA spectrum, you need to find a sunscreen that filters almost all of the harmful rays, like the protection that we already have from UVB. To do this, a sunscreen needs to have certain chemicals in it, namely avobenzone, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide or Mexoryl SX. Mexoryl SX is the most effective of these, but since it has just been approved by the FDA, is is too expensive in the US, costing $35 per 3.5 oz. Neutrogena is the best choice after that, since it contains avobenzone, the next best chemical, and helioplex, which increases the length of time that the avobenzone remains effective in the sun from 2 hours to a reported 5 hours by resisting the chemical breakdown of avobenzone in contact with the sun's radiation. I would recommend this product for people with normal skin who do not want to spend $10 an oz. If you have sensitive skin, or are looking for sunscreen for your children, then you should go for one of the other two chemicals zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. For most people, the best choice is this sunscreen.

(More customer reviews)I really like this sunscreen! I use it almost everyday and it's the only one that doesn't make me break out! I usually tend to break out and burn easily: being sun-sensitive and living in Florida I've tried tons of sunscreens and this is just the right one for me. I read the other reviews that weren't that happy with it--I guess it just depends on your own personal skin as to how well it works for you. I'd recommend trying one (maybe from a store if you can't find it here) and if you like it as much as I did, order the multi-pack from Amazon--Amazon seems much cheaper in general (than stores) if you're willing to buy a multi-pack.
